Community Spotlight: Algiers

Algiers is referred to as the 15th Ward and is part of the city of New Orleans. There are many warehouses located in Algiers that are used for building and decorating floats for the carnival season. Algiers is home to Holy Cross College, which is a private college and is famous for their nursing program. A very interesting find in Algiers is Marie Laveau's Parlor, where it is said that descendants of Laveau had meeting to discuss her mysterious practices. A favorite thing to do in Algiers is to visit Mardi Gras World. This is enjoyed by locals and tourists. 

Mardi Gras World shows what it takes to make Mardi Gras happen each year, and there it is Mardi Gras year round. You get a chance to go on tours, take pictures, and dress up in carnival attire. There Is a famous and historical plantation in Algiers called Vallette-Barrette Plantation House. It serves as a great scene when walking arround the beautiful neighborhoods, and outside is a plaque that explains the Plantation House history. Algiers is a great community full of history and culture.
