Located in Washington County, the small community of Barton is named after Barton Salisbury, the founder of the town. The population, at the time of the 2000 census, was 2,546.

Barton is home to the historic roller mills, also known as Gadow’s Mill, which is located near the dam on Barton Ave. Gadow’s Mill was historically used for industry, processing and extracting as well as a manufacturing facility. Owned by the local government, the mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
