About Vancouver, Washington

In 1792, a young British lieutenant sailed the Columbia River with his captain, Robert Vancouver. As the lieutenant explored the land north of the river, he named the first site he came upon in honor of his captain. And thus, Vancouver was born. In subsequent years, Lewis and Clark camped near the site and Hudson’s Bay Company would make Vancouver the fur trading capitol of the Northwest. These days, over 150,000 residents agree with Meriwether Lewis’ assessment that Vancouver is “the only desired situation for settlement west of the Rocky Mountains.”

Resting on the mighty Columbia River just across from Portland, Oregon, Vancouver is a city that embraces its fascinating history while eagerly anticipating the future. While the Pacific Ocean 90 miles to the west and the Cascade range just to the east provide a smorgasbord of outdoor activities, nearby Portland and downtown Vancouver offer urban dwellers all the art, theater, music, and other metropolitan amenities they could ask for.

Homes for sale in the Vancouver area range from historic residences to new construction in green subdivisions. With real estate prices that are more affordable than nearby neighborhoods in Portland, many Vancouver residents choose to live in Oregon, but take advantage of all that the Washington side has to offer.
