First pioneers to Symmes Township, Ohio were German and Scotch-Irish. The township was formed in 1824 and named for early settler John Cleves Symmes. Camp Dennison is the most historic of Symmes’ old-time villages, settled in the late 1790s and named after Ohio’s governor, William Dennison. There are nearly 500 commercial residents in Symmes Township. Major employers are Verizon, Luxottica and Procter & Gamble. It is outpacing most of the rest of the area in growth.
