About Colerain Township, Ohio

The township was settled in 1790 by surveyor John Dunlab and named Coleraine after his birthplace in Ireland. The ‘e’ was later dropped. It is Ohio’s largest unincorporated township and includes the communities of Groesbeck, Mt. Healthy Heights, Northbrook, Northgate, White Oak and Pleasant Run. This expansive area offers a range of newer, affordable homes—traditional and contemporary— as well as condominiums, multi-levels and apartments. Driving time to downtown Cincinnati is 25 minutes. Ronald Reagan Highway and I-275 pass through the northern section of the township making easy access to I-74, I-75 and I-71. The Mercy Franciscan - Mt. Airy Hospital is within 15 minutes of any part of Colerain Township. Other major hospitals can be reached within 20 to 30 minutes. Northgate represents one of the largest regional shopping areas in the Greater Cincinnati area with Northgate Mall and Stone Creek Towne Center all located right in the heart of Colerain Township. Tri-County Mall and Cincinnati Mills Mall are also conveniently nearby. Within Colerain Township are 11 parks including Heritage Park, Clippard Park, Dravo Park, Colerain Township Park and Groesbeck Park. The community offers 12 baseball fields. The private Orchard Hills Swim Club is located off Cheviot Road and Clippard YMCA is on Cheviot Road. Pebble Creek Country Club and Clovernook Country Club have 18-hole golf courses in the area. There are four well-stocked fishing lakes in the area. Just fifteen minutes away are beautiful Winton Woods and Miami Whitewater Park, county parks offering golfing, boating, riding stables, hiking trails and vast picnic grounds. Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve and Newberry Wildlife Sanctuary are also in the area. Events in Colerain include the annual Taste of Colerain in August as well as free concerts and outdoor movies in the parks throughout the summer.
