Welcome to Mont Vernon, NH

Mont Vernon is a picturesque New England town that is often described as “the village atop the hill”, referring to the town’s 800’ above sea level elevation. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the view.

In the late 1890’s Mont Vernon was a popular summer destination for visitors from Massachusetts. They came to stay at the Grand Hotel and enjoy the slightly lower temperatures offered by the town’s elevation. Unfortunately, the hotel burned on Labor Day, 1930, but a few of the guest cottages still remain to this day.

The town has its own elementary school, the Mont Vernon Village School, and is part of the Souhegan School System where children attend Amherst Middle School and Souhegan High School, both of which are located in neighboring Amherst.

Located to the west of Amherst, the town is a good commuting location to work or cultural events in Nashua and Manchester, including Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

The town has little or no commerce and has retained much of its charm. Nearby attractions include Purgatory Falls, an interesting water and rock sight, featuring a waterfall and feature called The Devil’s Pot or The Devil’s Bathtub.

Living in Mont Vernon offers the best of quiet country living, yet still provides easy access to major shopping centers and the Nashua and Manchester malls.
