Town of Plymouth - America's Home Town

The Pilgrims had it right when they stepped off the Mayflower onto the rocky shores of Plymouth Massachusetts in 1620. The site of the first permanent settlement in New England, the community has come to be known as “America’s Hometown.”

Located just 40 miles south of Boston, the area is rich in land and sea with direct access to major highways. Its sandy beaches and historic Plimoth Plantation make it a popular tourist destination and a year-round home to a population of residents that has doubled in the last 30 years.

Housing choices run the gamut from affordable cottages and ranches, to capes, colonials, and oceanfront mansions. Plymouth is also home to the upscale community of the Pine Hills with its luxury apartments, condominiums, 55+ residences, free-standing homes, Village Green marketplace, and golf courses.

The Mayflower II, a replica of the Pilgrim’s original vessel, is docked at Plymouth Harbor, which offers seasonal dinner cruises, fishing excursions, whale watches, and ferry service to Provincetown. Numerous town-wide events are held along the waterfront, including annual Thanksgiving Day parades, 4th of July fireworks celebrations, and giant food festivals where local restaurateurs showcase their wares.

Plymouth has its own Philharmonic Orchestra and one of the state’s largest public school systems. The town’s former Jordan Hospital has now affiliated with one of Boston’s finest medical centers and has become the Best Israel-Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth.

The natural beauty and ever-expanding amenities of America’s Hometown continue to attract visitors and residents to the place where a weary band of travelers disembarked in a new land nearly 400 years ago.
