History of Acton, MA

Acton became an independent town in 1735, and Acton’s minutemen played an important role in the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. The Acton minutemen joined other town militias and fought at Concord’s North Bridge. Their commander, Captain Isaac Davis, was the first officer to die in the American Revolutionary War.

In addition to Acton’s historic center, four other villages grew with the railroad in the 19th century. Today, commuters can park at the South Acton station and gain quick access to downtown Boston.
