The Community of Piedmont,CA

Piedmont is a community with fine architecture and tree-lined streets set within the boundaries of the city of Oakland. It is regarded as one of the most desirable residential communities in the San Francisco East Bay, due to its top-notch school system, low crime rate and good weather. Piedmont, literally foot of the hills in Italian, sits at the base of the Oakland Hills.
Piedmont was known as the “City of Millionaires” in the 1920’s because there were more resident millionaires per square mile, than in any city in the United States. Many of the mansions built by these millionaires still stand today. Piedmont homes are generally more expensive than real estate in neighboring communities.
Piedmont also has several beautiful parks, a community center and offers numerous “hometown” celebrations including the well-attended annual 4th of July parade, Turkey Trot run on Thanksgiving morning and summer movie nights in the park. Although largely zoned for residential use, in the center of town, just a block from City Hall, is an intimate commercial district along Highland Avenue consisting of a gas station, three banks, professional offices and a small neighborhood store.
Piedmont’s public school system consistently ranks among the highest in California with three elementary schools (Wildwood, Havens & Beach), a middle school (Piedmont Middle School), a high school (Piedmont High School), and an alternative high school (Millennium). Over 98% of Piedmont High School students are college bound every year and many attend private universities such as Georgetown, Harvard, Yale, and MIT as well as public colleges and universities. The Piedmont Unified School District is one of only a few California public school systems to achieve this success, which can largely be attributed to a dedicated and involved parent population.
