Magnifico Milano, Italy

Milano is located in Lombardy and is one of the largest cities in Italy, famous as the capital of design, fashion and finance. The Municipality of Milano has a population of approximately 1,300,000 people, but the metropolitan area hosts approximately 7,400,000 residents.

Due to its strategic location and the many International airports all located within an hour from the city (Milano Malpensa, Milano Linate and Orio al Serio in Bergamo), Milano is also considered an important commercial and industrial area that has transformed the city into an important International business headquarters.

The city is very ancient dating back to the Roman period as demonstrated by the beautifully restored Roman Walls that surround the city centre. Milano also is a great location for sightseeing with world renowned monuments and Churches such as Piazza Del Duomo with the famous Gallery Vittorio Emanuele, the Teatro alla Scala, the Sforza Castle dating back to the Renaissance period, the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie where the famous fresco “The Last Supper” is preserved and the superb Biblioteca Ambrosiana with the nearby Pinacotech.

Located just outside Milano is the new Milan Fair complex, considered to be the largest of its kind in the world.

The city also offers great transportation connections with 5 tubes, buses, trolley-buses and 5 railway stations (the most important is the Central Station) providing the newly launched high speed train to Rome.

Milano hosted the World Exposition in 1906 and will host the Universal Expo in 2015. For this reason, the city is now undergoing a change in the skyline due to the many architectural masterpieces such as the famous 3 skyscrapers of CityLife that will enrich the city.

But, Milano is not only business. The nights are enriched with many cinemas, theatres, art galleries in the Brera zone, after dinner bars and discos. The restaurants offer a vast variety of local and International food. The regional cuisine offers pasta, rice (famous is risotto alla Milanese with saffron), cotoletta alla Milanese, the Panettone only made during the Christmas period, and a tasty variety of salami and cheeses among which Gorgonzola is the most appreciated.
