THE ENTIRE:On c. 157 acres - €2,750,000Residence on c.87 acres €2,300,000One of Ireland’s finest historic Georgian residences and gardens in a wonderful countryside setting surrounded by excellent quality rolling parkland, arable land, spectacular woodland and streams.Approached by a long tree lined avenue Loughton is a most impressive three-storey over basement house, built in 1777, on the site of a seventeenth-century house, with additions of 1835 by James Pain. The main front consists of two wide and shallow three-sided bows of three bays each, with a two-bay centre between them. Single-storey wing of two bays, adorned with pilasters. Pediments and entablatures on console brackets over ground floor and first floor windows. The property is an important late eighteenth century house which was re-built by the Pain brothers in the early nineteenth century. Originally it faced north and had a shallow full-height half-hexagon bow in the centre. It was turned around to face south and the doorcase put at one end so that the drawing and dining rooms date from the Pain brothers renovation. The house has very fine detailing and is probably the Pains finest classical work. Traces of the late eighteenth-century decoration can be seen in the house as well as the early nineteenth-century changes in internal layout. The ground floor is laid out with bright and generously proportioned formal reception rooms with ornate decorative cornicing and ceilings magnificent plasterwork and large open individual original period fireplaces. There are original wooden floors throughout with numerous sash bay windows complete with working carved panel shutters.A fantastic 1800s James Pain cantilever staircase in the oval hall winds its way up to the first floor where there are five bedrooms two of which are large suites. The top floor holds a further eight bedrooms, three of which are en suite, bathroom and shower room. The back staircase goes to the second floor and dates from the 1700s.The lower vaulted ceiling ground floor has been extensively and tastefully restored and contains large well equipped rooms including the old kitchens there is access to the courtyard.
