Lowbridge House is a particularly impressive Victorian country house, designed and re-built in the fashionable Romantic ‘cottage ornée’ style between 1833 and 1837 by Richard Fothergill, ancestor of the present owners. At the same time, a lodge house and a new drive were constructed and woodland was planted around the house and the valley. In addition, a lake and boathouse were created in front of the house. In 1867 the house was further extended, with the addition of a billiards room, more bedrooms and the old bank barn was converted into a North wing, to provide extra accommodation for staff and guests, largely used for shooting parties.
