Property DetailsThe Burg Kommern, which was built in 1350 and later expanded several times, until the year 1794 was the seat of the Arenberg bailiff of the imperial rule Kommern. The Arenberger nobles were the 12th and 13th century members of the nobility and viscount of Cologne and had its headquarters in Aremberg. The iron ore mining, lead mining in Kommern and political and military tasks throughout Europe provided the noblemen economic success and wealth, so they finally rose up in 1549 to Reichsgrafen, 1579 to Prince and in 1644 to Dukes. The Dukes, however, were dispossessed in 1794 and then the bailiff family Abel came to the castle and mine. Through marriage the still current owners arrived at the Burg Kommern.
