Welcome to Kirkland, Washington

In the 1880s, Peter Kirk auctioned off his British estate and headed to America and the Pacific Northwest. There, on the northeast shores of Lake Washington, he founded Moss Bay Iron and Steel Works. The company collapsed during the Panic of 1893, but the company town remained, eventually becoming a wool-milling hub during the Klondike Gold Rush and a ship-building titan during World War II.
Just minutes from Microsoft and other companies that have made the Northwest famous, many captains of industry call Kirkland home, as well as the workers who make those industries flourish. Homes for sale in the city range from luxurious waterfront estates and condos to lovely craftsman and mid-century offerings.
With miles of waterfront recreation areas, Kirkland is a perfect place to be on a sunny day. Bridle Trails state park provides over 20 miles of equestrian trails and acres of forested green spaces.
While Kirkland is proud of its extensive and diverse set of waterfront parks, it also offers a rich variety of neighborhood playgrounds, ball fields, walking trails, natural and landscaped open spaces, and an outdoor public swimming pool.
Kirkland's waterfront location offers unlimited recreational opportunities and spectacular views. Cruise ships depart regularly from downtown to explore Lake Washington's shores. Such offerings make Kirkland a perfect one-day vacation or a place to put down roots.
Exploring Kirkland's many unique neighborhoods is one way to enjoy this town; the other is to explore the vibrant yet quaint downtown waterfront area with a plethora of boutiques, shops, and restaurants.
Kirkland is located on the eastern shore of Lake Washington, just north of Bellevue and west of Redmond. Access from the north or south is easy on I-405. Kirkland is served by the Lake Washington School District.
