As a crossroads community, Mechanicsville maintained its small-town historic appearance and saw little development throughout the 20th century. Because of this, the village today continues to proudly showcase its 19th century historic district homes that have survived due to the fine craftsmanship of its artisan population. Residents of Mechanicsville enjoy living in a tranquil retreat from Pennsylvania’s urban and industrial centers, but this does not mean that the area is lacking in attractions and recreation. Bucks County offers something for every interest, including shopping and dining, heritage sites and museums, theatre and outdoor recreation. The most popular historical attraction in the region is the reconstructed William Penn house—Pennsbury Manor—where visitors can learn the details of 17th century frontier life. Other local museums that detail Bucks County history are the Fonthill Museum, Grundy Museum, and Mercer Museum. Bucks County has a vibrant arts community that supports the Bucks County Playhouse, an orchestra and choral society. The community of Morrisville, located near Trenton, offers the Actors’ Net of Bucks County which provides quality theatre performances for the community, as well as acting classes for adults and youth. Fun activities for Bucks County kids include Sesame Place—a Sesame Street theme park located in Langhorne—and Giggleberry Fair at Peddler’s Village. Also, the village’s close proximity to the Delaware River makes it possible for Mechanicsville residents to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor recreation, from camping and hiking to fishing and Delaware River tubing.
