A Cass County village, Edwardsburg, Mich., provides a country setting in a quiet environment. This small community is located just northeast of South Bend, Ind. Farmers utilize the large expanses of land for crops and raising animals.
Edwardsburg was first coined Beardsley’s Prairie by its first settler, Ezra Beardsley. However, in 1828, Thomas H. Edwards moved into the area and started the first post office. Although it eventually closed, the post office later reopened under the direction of Henry A. Chapin as the postmaster on August 23, 1841. Then on Dec. 29, 1845, the town was renamed to Edwardsburg.
Edwardsburg possesses that small farming community environment that nurtures a love for agriculture. With a population of little more than 1,100, residents reap the rewards of a close-knit society with big city life located just a few miles away in South Bend and Kalamazoo. The one high school in the village, Edwardsburg High School, works hard to help students reach their academic potentials and prepare for secondary education.
