Fabulous Chicago Living and Numerous Housing Options in Streeterville
If you’re looking for proximity to upscale shopping, fabulous restaurants and first-rate theatres, look no further than Streeterville. Located just moments from Lake Michigan and Michigan Avenue, this area embodies city living at its finest. In 1886, Streeterville was nothing more than the bottom of Lake Michigan until George Wellington “Cap” Streeter ran his 35-ton steamship, The Reutan, into a sandbar at the bottom of the Lake. After several unsuccessful attempts to remove his vessel, Streeter decided to make the Reutan his home. As a landfill turned the lake into 168 acres of land, Streeter claimed the land as his own. Although he was eventually evicted from the site, the neighborhood has been given his namesake – a tribute to one of Chicago’s more eccentric historical figures.
From its days under water and as a landfill, Streeterville has made incredible advances. Enjoy both architectural and Lake views – with beautiful skyscrapers like the John Hancock Tower highlighting the Streeterville skyline. The housing options range from mid- to high-rise condominiums and apartments to co-op buildings. There is also a variety of newly-built residences along with classic vintage buildings. Plan to do plenty of walking within the perimeter of Streeterville, as parking is at a premium! But with fantastic shops, including Water Tower Place and 900 N. Michigan; exceptional live theatre at the MCA and Drury Lane; and unparalleled dining offered at restaurants like Cite in Lake Point Tower or the Cape Cod Room in the Drake Hotel within walking distance, who needs a car?
